Care for Diabetes-Related Foot Conditions
If you have diabetes or circulation problems affecting your feet, our podiatrists can help prevent and manage hard-to-heal wounds
Diabetes can cause circulation problems that decrease the nerve sensation in your feet. This can happen even if your blood sugar is under control. This decreased sensation means you’re less likely to feel pain—your body’s way of telling you that something’s wrong and needs your attention.
If you have diabetes and lose sensation in your feet, simple cuts and scrapes may go unnoticed until serious sores or ulcers develop. These ulcers can result in serious pain, disability and even amputation. According to the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases, more than 60 percent of lower-limb amputations that are not due to a traumatic accident are due to diabetes.
If you have diabetes and experience foot pain or discomfort, talk to one of our podiatrists. An accurate diagnosis and treatment can return you to pain-free activity and give you a better understanding of how to take care of your feet.
